| Staff | Stan Sersen, President and founder of ASG, was born in the city of Baltimore and has roots in Fells Point, Canton and Essex. After creating ASG, Inc. in 1988, Stan built a unique consulting practice merging his construction experience and education in environmental design to provide services that architects did not include in their traditional approach to project development. In 2005 he built the EnviroCenter® in order to “surround ourselves with people committed to providing our children and grandchildren with the legacy of a sustainable future of clean air, clean water and clean energy.” He is also the founder of the Green Building Institute, a 501 C3 non profit organization whose mission is to teach and promote energy efficient buildings. Following service with the US Army in Vietnam, Stan received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland in 1978 specializing in environmental design, solar engineering, and structural engineering. He is a licensed Architect in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia and is a National Council of Architectural Review Board (NCARB) certificate holder. He earned the Reserve Specialist (RS) designation from Community Association’s Institute and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED®AP) Certification from the US Green Building Council. Stan is also certified by the National Charrette Institute (NCI) as a Charrette Planner and Charrette Manager. Married with three grown daughters, Stan enjoys sailing and teaching in his free time. Lyn Rowell ASG Office Manager. Lyn is from England and is married to Doug who was serving in the USAF when they met. They moved from England to Biloxi, Mississippi, then to Japan, then to Italy and then back to England. The family then moved to Maryland in 1995 shortly after she recieved her Private Executive Secretary's Diploma from the London Chamber of Commerce. Lyn has worked at ASG since 1995, becoming the Office Manager in the fall of 1996. Lyn attempts to keep ASG running in an orderly and efficient manner which is no short order considering the host of characters she has to deal with. In the process she has attained the skill of keeping all accounts current and is much liked by other staff on pay day! Lyn has three children and one grandson, and enjoys trips back "home", sewing, baking, reading mystery novels, listening to BBC radio over the internet, attempting to knit, and gardening.
Laurie Ansley joined ASG in 2005. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983 and is a licensed Architect in Maryland. Laurie earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) Certification from the US Green Building Council in 2002. She earned Certification as a Charrette Planner (CP) by the National Charrette Institute in 2006 and Charrette Manager (CM) in 2007, and handles all of our charrette planning and management team at ASG. Her awareness of the vital connection between the outdoors and interior spaces originated as a child growing up in West Texas. She is still an idealist and strives to strengthen the link between the integrative design process and ecologically regenerative buildings to ultimately attain architecture of balance and delight. Laurie also has very cool books. John Saksa worked in the construction trades for over 20 years, primarily as a project manager. He operated a construction company performing all aspects of building construction and obtained a diverse education in both the arts and the sciences, which included studies in art, music, architecture, engineering, and business both here and abroad encompassing over twenty years. He graduated from Penn State, University Park in May 1999 with a Bachelors degree in architectural engineering. Prior to coming to ASG, John worked for Whiting-Turner implementing fast track projects on two high profile retail malls. John is a key forensic investigator and is Senior Project Manager for ASG.
Nick Clements brings to ASG over 25 years of construction experience, having worked in the field since graduating from high school. Nick was the owner and operator of a small construction company for a number of years before joining ASG as a field technician. Nick has two children and one grandson who he enjoys spending as much time as possible with. Hobbies and leisure time are spent going out on the water in his boat to relax and fish, camping, and traveling. He's also an accomplished drummer.
Gary Groll currently serves as ASG's Director of Planning and Development. Born and raised in the Washington D.C. area, Gary emigrated out west in the early 70's. He interned at Farallones Institute and filched a degree from the University of Arizona with concentrations in philosophy, anthropology and environmental design. Returning east to attend graduate school at George Washington University's Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Gary fell into a position with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Neighborhood Self-Help Development. Convinced he was doing good work, he stuck it out until his office was abolished after a change in administration. Over the years Gary has founded and managed a few good companies and served as strategic planning and development consultant to many others. He has a wonderful son and daughter, and now a granddaughter, and thus has the opportunity to embarass a whole new generation of Grolls. His interest has been, and continues to be, promoting sound ecological design initiatives wherever possible.
